TRAVEL STOP - NEOPOLITAN INTRODUCTION

AS A CHILD, GROWING UP IN NORTH CHICAGO, MY FATHER OFTEN BROUGHT PIZZA HOME ON FRIDAY NIGHTS.  MIKE’S PIZZA WAS OUR GOTO CHOICE.  ALL OF THIS TO SAY…I FELL IN LOVE WITH PIZZA!!!!

 

(I LOVE SANDWICHES TOO.  BUT, THAT IS THE TOPIC FOR A FUTURE BLOG POST.)

 

FAST-FORWARD…

 

AFTER ATTENDING AN ALBUM RELEASE PARTY IN 2017, I TREATED THE ARTIST (A FRIEND OF MINE) AND HIS GUESTS TO A MEAL.  I WAS CRAVING PIZZA, HOWEVER I DID NOT KNOW THE AREA VERY WELL.  I SEARCHED MY MAPS APP FOR “PIZZA NEAR ME”.  OUR MAP SAID, A WOOD FIRED PIZZA JOINT WAS LOCATED A FEW MINUTES AWAY FROM THE STUDIO.  UPON ARRIVAL, THE SIGNAGE READ:

 

 

“PIZZEOLI”

 

THAT WAS MY INTRODUCTION TO NEOPOLITAN-STYLE PIZZA.

 

“NEAPOLITAN-STYLE PIZZA TYPICALLY CONSISTS OF A THIN AND SOFT CRUST—IF IT IS COOKED PROPERLY AT A HIGH TEMPERATURE, THE CRUST WILL BUBBLE UP AND BE CHARRED IN SPOTS. THAT IS TOPPED WITH A SIMPLE TOMATO SAUCE, FRESH MOZZARELLA CHEESE, AND FRESH BASIL.”

THE HOSTESS GREETED US IN A VERY FRIENDLY MANNER.  THE DÉCOR IS TASTEFULLY DONE AND I REALLY APPRECIATE THE FACT THE PIZZA OVEN BEING RIGHT OUT FRONT.  I WAS ABLE TO WATCH MY PIZZA BEING PREPARED AND COOKED.

 

WE SAT AT THE BAR AND MENUS WERE HANDED TO US.  AS IF THE CLOUDS PARTED IN THE SKY, OPENING UP THE HEAVENS ABOVE, BOTH VEGETARIAN AND VEGAN PIZZA SECTIONS WERE ON THE MENU.  AS A VEGETARIAN, THIS IMMEDIATELY APPEALED TO ME.  EVERYONE ORDERED.  EVERYONE THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THEIR PIZZA!

 

THE OWNER KYLE AND HIS ENTIRE STAFF, MADE US FEEL VERY WELCOME AND AT HOME, WHICH IMMENSEL ADDED TO OUR OVERALL DINING EXPERIENCE!!!

 

FOR THOSE THAT LOVE PIZZA, I SUGGEST YOU GIVE PIZZEOLI A TRY. 

 

I HAVE NOT YET VISTED NAPLES, ITALY.  HOWEVER, IF THIS PIZZA IS A TRUE REPRESENTATION OF THE HERITAGE AND CULTURE I CAN EXPECT TO ENJOY WHEN I DO, THAT TRIP JUST GOT A LITTLE MORE EXCITING TO ME!
